Sample Containers, Preservation, and Holding Times

Pre-cleaned and sterilized sample containers are available without charge. Containers are preserved as appropriate. Samples for bacterial analysis must be taken in sterile bottles.

Routine and pool analysis sample containers are also available at the Town Health Departments of Falmouth, Mashpee, Brewster, Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, and Truro.

Courier service is available to Falmouth and Mashpee residents on Tuesdays through their respective Health Departments. There is also a courier service available on Wednesdays from the towns of Wellfleet, Eastham, and Brewster. Samples must be delivered by 9:30 AM in order to be picked up by the courier.

Semi-volatile organic analysis parameters include: Semi-volatile Organics, Semi-volatile Organics (drinking water), 2,3,7,8-TCDD (Dioxin) (Drinking Water), Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH).

Semi-Volatile Organic Analyses

Conventional organic analysis parameters include: Biochemical Oxygen Demand (5 Day BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Organic Carbon Total (TOC), Phenolics, Surfactants (MBAS).

Hydrocarbon analysis parameters include: Hydrocarbon Fingerprint (GC/FID), Oil and Grease, Gasoline Range Organics, Diesel Range Organics.

Metals analysis parameters include: Total Metals (Except Mercury), Dissolved Metals (Except Mercury), Total Mercury, Dissolved Mercury, SDWA Lead and Copper Rule, Hexavalent Chromium.
