Programs and Services

The Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment manages a diverse set of programs to support Cape Cod’s residents and visitors.

Whether it’s assisting individuals and families through our public health nurse program or operating Barnstable County’s state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, the department is working hard to promote, protect and support Cape Cod.

Below you can learn more about our efforts to provide residents and small businesses with low-interest septic loans, support the work of public health officers and local boards of health across Cape Cod, research and monitor innovative alternative septic treatment methods, provide regional emergency management and disaster preparedness support to the community, test and monitor water quality at each of Cape Cod’s beaches, and provide critical public health information on issues such as tobacco, tick-borne illnesses or skin cancer.
